We had the pleasure of capturing an East Indian wedding. This wedding took place over two days and was one of the most beautiful and colourful events we’ve been a part of.
Shivy and Colin were wonderful to work with. They spent time to blend the traditions from Shivy’s culture with the traditions from Colin’s to make a spectacularly memorable event. Shivy looked amazing both in the white dress she wore for the ceremony and in the gorgeous light blue and gold wedding sari.
This stunning, and joyful event made us really enjoy our job that much more.
Where do we start? Everyone wants the perfect wedding; and every wedding is perfect, because you are getting married. That being said, if there was any one wedding you would like to model your day after, it would be this one.
They decided to have a first look wedding, which we strongly recommend because it really makes for a more enjoyable day for the bride and groom. Then they had a private dinner with just immediate family, and had the ceremony after the dinner.
This did two important things. First, the bride and groom thoroughly enjoyed an intimate dinner with their family.
Second, after the ceremony, they had delicious appetizers and deserts for their guests, so there was no waiting to eat. No one was going hungry.
Also, having the ceremony later meant avoiding the intense heat of a summer day. No one would be fainting or uncomfortable. Once this gorgeous ceremony was complete, they went straight into party mode. No delay or lull. Jennifer and Jason were able to enjoy every last minute of their wedding.
In my mind, there are two things that make a wedding amazing. First, have fun, and enjoy your day. This is exactly what Carli and Scot did. They wore non stop smiles from the first look to the first dance.
From Carli eating pizza in her wedding dress, to Scot dealing with the mother of all blisters, but not letting that stop him from enjoying the day, these two just had fun. Nothing could bring them down. They kept things simple, and because of that, they had a laid back wedding day.
Second, don't put us in a box. We like to joke that there is no box, but in reality there is. For us, when you restrict us by insisting on replicating a photo, you are essentially tying us down and limiting what we can provide you. Rather, let us do our thing. You hired us for a reason; something spoke to you when you saw our photos and shooting style.
We are not telling you to stop looking at Pinterest. By all means, look away. Get as many ideas as you like, just keep them as ideas. Don't try to replicate. Replicating a photo never works the way you hope, and you will be disappointed. But, if you work with us, we can take your ideas, make them yours, and you will have spectacular photos to remember your special day.
.Noelle and Jeff were married at mable lake resort. What a beautiful venue! The ceremony was just high enough from the lake that we had a gorgeous view while these two wonderful people were saying their vows. They have the cutest daughter who walked down the aisle in an adorable light pink tutu. One can relax and watch the love eclipse them. Surrounded by their loved ones, Noelle and Jeff devoted their lives to each other. It is always a privilege for us to witness such a mile stone event in our clients lives. Now, we get to enjoy the memories and relive the precious moments while looking at the photos taken during the day.
.Reasons why a first look wedding could be right for you.
Many people look at us odd when we first bring up the first look. They often respond with: "that seems silly." Or "but it's not traditionally done that way." This is true, traditionally, many people consider it to be bad luck to see the bride before the ceremony. This was set into place to build anticipation for living with and building a life with whom you will spend the rest of your days.
Let us consider this for a moment. Many years ago, it was considered very bad luck to live together before marriage. Now, though, most couples not only live together for years before they decide to marry, but, they have one or more children out of wedlock. So, if you think about it, this tradition is no longer necessary. Also, they way we do things now has changed. It used to be that after the wedding a couple would get one or two rolls (approximately 50 pictures) of wedding photos. Now, most couples have a few hundred photos of their special day.
Now, let us compare a traditional wedding day with the first look. If you decide to do things the traditional way, your ceremony will most likely be early in the afternoon. Then right after your ceremony, you spend about forty five minutes doing family photos. After this, you and your wedding party depart to take bridal party photos. This typically takes an hour. Next, you have an hour of photos with the bride and groom. Plus, if you have multiple locations, you must factor in driving time. While you and your wedding party are galavanting around, your family and friends are waiting around for the party to start. The thing we hear the most from our couples is that they only wished they had more time to spend with their family and friends. They also wish they could enjoy the expensive venue they rented.
The way your day is laid out with the first look is much different. If you start your ceremony at four, then you would have your first look at one. The advantage of doing it this way is that it is private and personal. We work with you to choose a spot that is meaningful and beautiful to you. We set the groom up in a secluded spot with his back turned away from his stunning bride. The bride walks up behind him and taps him on the shoulder. He then, turns around and sees his gorgeous bride to be. Every time we see this, we capture more emotion than when we do things traditionally. Because it is private, the couple feels comfortable to show their emotions. On top of that, it relieves so much pressure, that the groom, especially, is able to relax during the ceremony; we get that "wow" moment twice.
Another reason we suggest the first look is because your hair and makeup are fresh, so you look your absolute best for your photos. As well, if it is a hot day, this timeline is more forgiving.
After the first look is done, (usually, by two) then we ask your wedding party to join us at a previously chosen location. These photos are so much fun.. Everyone is relaxed and having the time of their lives. There is no time crunch, no stress. We take an hour with the bridal party, capturing candid as well as posed moments. Then at three we take everyone back to the venue where they can have a small bite to eat, use the washroom, and freshen up before the hectic part of the wedding day.
Once the ceremony is complete, we take about a 2o min to half hour to do family photos. This happens while your guests start cocktail hour. After, these final photos, you can visit with your family and friends. Enjoy the beautiful venue you spent so much money on and not feel flustered or rushed.
So, when your photography or videography team brings up the first look scenario, don't dismiss it too quickly. Seriously consider what you want out of your wedding day. Either way you decide to go, focus on enjoying your day. Because these moments are rare.
The seventh day of the seventh month of twenty seventeen. Seven is the number of completeness and perfection (both physical and spiritual). That was Courteny and Mitch's wedding day; 07/07/17.
They did not pick this date for that reason, in fact, they didn't even realize that seven was repeated three times. They simply wanted to get married, and that was the date that worked out. We had the immense privilege of spending the day with them and their family. Now the photos are done, and we can reflect on the beautiful moments between this wonderfully cute couple and their families and friends.
As we were developing the photos, we couldn't help but think that the number seven was, rather fitting. The day was perfect. They were not overly concerned about the small details, such as the centre pieces, or colours. They allowed themselves to be caught up in the moments, enjoying each morsel of precious time spent together. The important thing was, they were getting married. They were devoting their lives to each other, and the people who valued and supported them; the people they care about most, was there to witness it.
We talk about moments a lot, it is our business name. When you really think about it, it is those special moments that make life worth living. It is those moments that makes your wedding day complete and perfect.
This is one more thing we recommend. Enjoy your day. Enjoy every minuscule moment, because you will never be able to get them back. This is another reason why we love our job. You may never be able to live those moments over, but, we can help you remember so you can relive them in you mind. The photos can bring you right back to that day.
Regardless of which day your wedding may land on, at the end of it, you will be married, and that, my friends, is perfect.
We have said this many, many times. We love our job. We adore being around people who are experiencing one of the most important times in their lives. There is nothing wrong with putting on a great party with all the special decorations and deserts, and details that you want. However, there is one thing we see that has the potential to turn into a negative experience for our loving couples. That is, focusing too much on the little things and not enough on the main reason why you decided to get married. What we mean by "the little things" is the colours of tablecloths, the colour of the inside of the cake or the icing or other small details like that. Granted, you do want your reception to look nice, but even if there is something that isn't what you would consider "perfect" we encourage our clients to remember that the most important thing is you got married. You have chosen to devote yourselves to a wonderful, beautiful person who will love and support you no matter what. Plus, the people you cherish the most are there with you. They are witnessing you make this phenomenal step in your lives, and will be your support structure.
Kim & Dion's wedding is a perfect example of what really matters on your wedding day.
Ever been a part of something or witnessed something that you knew it was going to be magical?
Maybe using the word magical is too much, but that is the only was I can describe this wedding, as well as Cory & Ashely’s relationship.
I had tears of joy from their heart felt vows, a little giggle when Ashley gave Cory a single red rose after she walked down the aisle; then an *oh, that is so cute!* moment when she said “I choose you” as she handed Cory the rose.
This is reason number (I've lost count) of why I love my job. We love working with our clients to co different ways to capture their special moments. Cory and Ashley were these amazing clients. They were more than happy to work with us, apply our suggestions, and try different ideas. Cory even organized a time for us to get into the courthouse and take pictures in the courtroom and jail. The photos tuned out great and it was a blast capturing these moments. The more we have the privilege of being a wedding photographer in the okanagan the more we enjoy this job.
We consider it a great honour when a couple decides to work with us on their wedding day. Seeing two families coming together, watching each couple commit their love and lives to one another is so wonderful. We never get tired of this. With Nicole and Richard Williams, we felt exactly that way. When you look at this couple you can tell they love each other. This is reason number (I've lost count) on why we love our job. Being a photographer and videographer in the okanagan we get to be a part of our clients happy beginnings. We get to watch as their families grow as they marry and children start entering the picture. This is a cherished privilege we will hold onto for the rest of our lives.
For us weddings don't start the day I show up with my camera, they start the moment the couple contacts me and wants me to capture their big day.
In that moment, I start thinking of what we could do and how the wedding day will look, how the day will unfold.
I almost become the unofficial wedding planner, giving recommendations for things that will make your day go smoother and to ensure we capture the best possible photos.
We work with Each couple from Engagement photos right up till the wedding day.
We have done so many weddings;
We have gotten to know the in’s of Out’s of what works and what slows down the wedding day.
By the time this is posted it will be around the 200 mark for weddings.
From day one we worked with with Jazzmin and Ryan; emails, phone calls. I remember Jazzmin Texting asking for help with her timeline and other helpful suggestions.
By the time the big day came we were so close, it was almost like we had become life long friends.
Makes for a better day and much better photos.
The day goes by in such a flash, but this is what we do, My job and I love it.
So just trust our vision and experience. If you do, your day will run much smoother and be less stressful. You and your family and guests will have a wonderful time and even better photos.
